PIVOTAL MOMENT

Pivotal Moment is a peer-to-peer workshop exchange geared toward university dance students and young professionals who have been creating or producing movement for three years or less. The goal of this pilot is to provide accessible space for artists to explore material, experiment with teaching and receive peer-to-peer feedback. The series will take place over the course of 8 weeks, with seven artists testing material on peers in the community.

A process and exploratory based movement class in the contemporary dance genre, that follows the sequence of warm-up, across the floor, and a center phrase. There will be both learned material and improvisational scores to play with. This class emphasizes the need to move and sweat together.

This class focuses less on technique and more on longer modern/contemporary phrase work. Come prepared to improvise and partner!

This class will focus on floorwork based in the Continuum technique. Continuum is a technique developed by Omar Carrum. The purpose is to explore the continuity of our own kinetic chains of movement and the authentic paths energy takes within our own bodies. Investigate the impulses our bodies have and how to manipulate those impulses into new pathways of movement.

This hip-hop/funk class will consist of a warm-up, improvisation exploration, and learning a choreographed combination to fun and funky music. Explore movement with a heavy focus on musicality, rhythm, and creativity. This is a class to take if you're just looking to get groovy or to add some groovy moves to your toolbox! Sneakers of some sort are encouraged.

Across, through, up, down and around the floor we’ll go. Pack your favorite pair of dance pants and socks so you can slide and glide all the way across the studio. This class will live within the arena of contemporary dance with a strong emphasis on utilizing our lowest level. Get ready to get low and battle through some material that focuses on either your greatest enemy or BFF, floor work.
